JEA to take down dangerous trees oak trees along Herschel Street

It seems that Avondale will be getting a bit of a trimming thanks to the JEA. According to an article posted on the News4Jax site, the JEA will be cutting down more than 150 trees along Herschel Street between St. Johns and San Juan Avenues. Once the trees have been removed, there is a plan to replace them with the “right” trees.

There is no word on when the work will begin. Contact the JEA for more information at (904) 665-6000, (800) 683-5542 or you call fill out an online form.

I think it is repulsive that JEA would remove trees that have so much life in them, including the birds and animals. They will plant trees that will not create such wonderful habitats for the animals that will be displaced, and of course, they will plant non native grass that requires chemicals to survive. REALLY SMART! Now the entrance to Avondale will look like the ugly entrances to steral subdivisions all over Florida.

Contact your councilman and JEA representative and let them know how you feel. It is only through communication that we can be heard.

Michael Corrigan is the councilman for most of the district. He can be reached at Corrigan@coj.net or by calling 904:630-1390. If you live on the north side of College Street of north of College to I-10 you will need to contact this number (904) 630-1395.
