Summer's Over

Where does the time go? It seems that summer is always over before you know it. School is back in session and vacations become memories.

While September can be on the hot side, October usually treats us with a couple of days of cool fall weather. And the District has plenty of beautiful parks large and small where one can find a quick respite from the daily grind. The St. Johns River is a prominent feature of many offering cool breezes, benches and playgrounds. Trails to explore. Some have picnic tables. Others are small and secluded, being tucked away under a canopy of trees at the ends of some of our most prominent streets.

What better way to spend an afternoon than with a great book and a picnic dinner. And since the days are growing shorter and our time is at a premium, here is a not-so-small list of 20-minute dishes from the NY Times. So what are you waiting for… turn off your computer and head out for some fresh air!

Does anyone know in which park in the photo above was taken? Photo by minds-eye.

I just saw that little bridge the other day. It's on Oak St. just west of Boone Park.

And that picture has some serious photoshopping.

Thanks bike jax. It has had a LOT of work. The photographer has another HDR photo from Riverside. It can be found at http://flickr.com/photos/36703550@N00/2282695016/ if you are interested.
