From Old House Web, here's more good information from green renovation expert Matt Grocoff.
Matt thought the old windows on his 110-year-old Victorian were beyond saving, until his good friend and window restoration expert Lorri Sipes made a convincing argument for restoring his windows. Lori offers the folowing reasons for restoring old windows:
The environment. Keeping old windows out of our landfills is just one reason window restoration is better for the environment.
Energy efficiency. Once restored, Matt's windows could be just as energy efficient as replacement windows.
Saving history. The windows on Matt's house are a hundred years old, they have stories to tell.
Save Money. Restoration is cheaper than replacement. It's mainly labor, there are very few materials involved. Matt can restore the windows for less than the cost of wood replacement windows.

Good article/clip. Interesting how on the same website another lady says that restoring a window, no matter what, will not increase your energy efficiency. Restoration is the greenest form of building.
Thanks Angel. You are so right about that. A restoration done right will most certainly increase the value of your house and reduce energy costs.
