5 Points Horror Fest

The 5 Points Theatre has really been delivering the goods, haven’t they? And for Halloween, what more could you ask for but a Horror Fest? It runs from October 23 through October 30th and features a wide mix of films. You will find true classics like the original Frankenstein from 1931, the original The Texas Chainsaw Massacre and An American Werewolf in London to documentaries like Zombie Girl. Also on tap are some independent films including Dead Snow and Pontypool as well as plenty of shorts throughout the week. Local film makers are well represented. Be sure to catch local film maker Don Barton Wednesday (10/28) for a screening of his film Zaat. And to wrap the week up, Friday night offers a costume party and a screening of Halloween. Film Buffs!

We are fortunate to have the 5 Points Theatre and all the new and interesting programming that they are offering. In addition to regular film fare (Inglorius Bastards is currently playing), they have so many special features. Did you catch Dirty Dancing Friday night? How about the UF-UK football game Saturday? You could have seen that nasty hit Tebow took on the BIG screen. Ouch! So I missed the 12th Annual Manhattan Short Film Festival. I hope you didn't.

This Friday is First Friday and marks the one year anniversary of the re-opening of the theatre. They're celebrating by showing Casablanca for free at 7pm! Later, Army of Darkness plays at midnight. You'll have plenty of time to hit one of the local watering holes in the neighborhood before the movie. There's Wall Street, O'Brothers and Starlite Café, to name a few. And if you are in to making horror films as wel as watching them, you have until Friday at 7pm to drop off your entry in the Short Horror Film for 5 Points Horror Fest.
