Howl starts Friday at the 5 Points Theatre

Howl opens Friday, October 29th and runs for one week.

Starring James Franco in a career-defining performance as Allen Ginsberg, Howl is the story of how the young poet’s seminal work broke down societal barriers in the face of an infamous public obscenity trial. In his famously confessional style, Ginsberg – poet, counter-culture icon, and chronicler of the Beat Generation – recounts the road trips, love affairs, and search for personal liberation that led to Howl, the most timeless work of his career.

With dialogue based almost entirely on primary documents, the film reconstructs the early life of Ginsberg during the 1940s and 1950s, and reenacts Ginsberg's debut performance of Howl at the Six Gallery Reading on October 7, 1955. In addition, parts of the poem are interpreted through animated sequences. Finally, these events are juxtaposed with a color recreation of the1957 obscenity trial of Howl's San Francisco publisher.
