Reminder: District 14 Candidate Forum Tonight

Here in the Historic District, we frequently hear residents complain that our neighborhood's quality of life concerns--including spillover crime, infrastructure problems, traffic congestion, and development projects that threaten the District's character--don't get adequate attention from the City. Well, tonight is your chance to make sure your voice is heard.

The six District 14 candidates who qualified for the ballot (listed below) will be present at a RAP-sponsored Candidate Forum this evening. The event will be held at the Cummer Museum of Art and Gardens; doors open at 5:30 pm, and the event will begin at 6 pm. The first 100 people who attend will get a free ticket to the Cummer Museum--a $10 value!

If you're concerned that you know too little about the candidates vying for the District 14 City Council seat, and you want to be able to make an informed choice about which candidate will best represent the interests of Riverside and Avondale, don't miss this special event.

(Metro Jacksonville has a nice post on the event that includes a map of District 14--it's bigger than you think!--and short bios on the candidates.)

Note that this is a unitary election in which voters are not limited to candidates of certain parties (as is the case with the more familiar partisan primary system). However, the political party of each candidate will be identified on the ballot. Early voting begins March 7th. The first Election is March 22, 2011. (If one candidate does not obtain 50 percent of the votes plus one in the first election, then the two candidates with the most votes face off in the general election.) The General Election is scheduled for May 17, 2011.
