Hot Spots

There is a perception in the district that crime is on the increase. It is actually down 1.6% for our Zone. Sometimes we feel helpless to do anything about it. We can even get the feeling that the police and politicians who we have entrusted with our public safety turn a blind eye. But we can do something and are encouraged by those very politicians and police to do something about it.

We are told to report ANY suspicious activity to the police. Generally speaking, if you have a bad feeling about a situation, it probably is bad so call the police (630-0500). If you feel that it is an urgent situation, that someone may be in danger, call 911. We have all been told this over and over and know that it is the right thing to do, yet sometimes we feel that we may be targeted by those we report.

Now we have a way to remain totally anonymous. The JSO has implemented a new program called Hot Spots. The program was started here in December by ICARE, Interchurch Coalition for Action, Reconciliation and Empowerment and is basically an anonymous way to report crime by sending in a written note to police. You can find out more about this initiative in this T-U article.
